KHS Comp Montana

I recently bought my Dad a 90s Specialized hybrid/rigid frame mountain bike. Many of the places he might ride are paths and light trails where I don’t want to take the Falcon, so I got myself a similar bike to his, a KHS from ’96. It was a good bike at the time with a Chromium Molybdenum (Cromoly) steel frame and decent components. However, it was in poor condition and the price on Craigslist reflected that. It was also disappointing that the wheels had been replaced with older Araya rims laced to KK hubs with a 6 speed freewheel, as opposed to the Bontrager rims and 8 speed cassette, I believe. The crankset had also been swapped for a cheaper unit.

Here is the bike after the changes I describe in subsequent posts. I know this is a terrible spot to choose to photograph the bike but I wanted it to be the same as the initial shot. The pedals are from the Falcon, since I got a more stylistically appropriate set for it.
